TASK 1.2 Which sector are you going to be working in?

Which sector are you going to be working in?

I would like to work in a sector involving editing, such as moving adverts and music videos.

I would like to make a short film based on the horror genre. I watch a lot of horror films, therefore I have worked out what I think makes a horror film scary and what doesn't. I am interested in china dolls as this is a childhood horror and working with them will hopefully help me to get over my fears of them. I most enjoy working on the post production, therefore the editing, I feel that this is my strongest skill. I am looking forwards to editing my short film together, adding colour enhancements and toning down the saturation to fit the theme. as well as editing, I will be directing and filming my production. Once I have an idea in my head, I wont stop until I have achieved it. I enjoy telling my characters what to do, as well as hearing their ideas to add to my scenes too. I have a victorian house in Beer, Devon, which I am really excited to be using.

I have watched 2 short films for inspiration. The first film I looked at was 'The Passenger'- (horror) It began with a tracking shot on the front of a moving car. The mise en scene was nighttime and very open spaced. A tense/ high pitched instrumental is played and the title appears at the side of the screen as though it is sitting next to the driver like a 'passenger'. A mid shot shows the side of the character, where she begins to text on her phone, the prediction is that she will have a crash or she will drive into something, which she does. A mid-long shot show the driver on the phone (dialogue)- however the dialogue is very scripted and the acting is bad. [0:31] the camera is placed on the floor, at the same level as the character. the camera is positioned in the distance focusing on the main character, a black figure walks in front of the camera.- encouraging the audience to jump. [1:49- 1:53] screeching sound, which turns into the sound of the tools the character is using to fix her wheel. A ghost appears in the interior mirror of the car, which results in the character crashing again.

'Cold Feet' is an award winning short horror film (2014) produced by Hashmic House Films. The logo appears at the beginning. a tracking shot is used to follow the character however a tripod is not being used therefore it is very shaky. Strong accents of the main character, could suggest that he is not from America. The actions are very structured as is the script, hard to believe that it is real as it doesn't seem realistic. A close up of the mans watch, could suggest that this is all about time, something is going to happen 'soon'. The lighting is dark which sets a creepy atmosphere. another character is holding his breath, which caused me to hold my breath too.- mirrored movement, (audience interaction). Imitations of blood, which is clearly red paint, this could have been portrayed in a better/ professional way. screaming from both characters. once the envelope has been opened, that person is then possessed. There is no clear ending, which encourages the audience to finish the story.- this also leaves the story unfinished, meaning they could make a sequel if they later decided to.
