TASK 1.1 Target Audience

TARGET AUDIENCE

Who is your target audience? My target audience will be 15+ I am interested in basing my FMP around a horror, and I would like to make it very disturbing and hard for someone young to watch, therefore by setting my age restriction quite high, then I can be more lenient with what I chose to create.

If you are thinking of becoming freelance, where is the money? Freelance has its ups and downs, being able to decide exactly what you want and being your own boss gives you a lot of freedom, but on the downside, you have to deal with all the financial problems as well as worrying about generating the entire project individually. You would only really be able to make a lot of money if you begin your career working with a big and well known company, to get your name out there.

How can you tailor your project to actually get you paying customers? To get paying customers, i would have to advertise my project to a large audience, and purse them that it is worth watching and paying for. I will email a professional and seek advice from them on how to make my project professional too.

If you are making a documentary or film What genre are you using? I am very interested in making a short horror film.

What are the conventions associated with that target audience? Dark rooms, dolls, big open spaces, old houses, victorian themes, high adrenaline

Will they pay for your product? As a student who is making a project for educational reasons, I wouldn't expect people to pay for my product.

How are you going to advertise your product? My target audience is teenagers and older, therefore i would expect that they would be using social media on a regular basis. I will promote my film on twitter with the uses of hashtags, I will post promotional posters on a Facebook page and I will probably post small clips on YouTube too.

Where will your audience see it? My finished piece will be published on YouTube. I will advertise my project on Twitter, Facebook and Youtube and possibly Instagram too.

1) Why is profiling important? Profiling is important, if you do not comply by your audiences interests then not many people will be interested in the film and the project will retain a negative reputation.

2) Profile your audience using the graphic below and write a post giving as much information as you can about them.

AGE- 16- 30 years old
GENDER- Not specified
ETHNICITY- Not specified, however the actors/ actresses will be white/ British.
POLITICAL SIDE- Right wing
LIFESTYLE LIKES- High adrenaline, enjoys being scared/ jumped, welcoming home, darkness
LIFESTYLE DISLIKES- China dolls, the sound of music boxes, doesn't like being watched or being left alone, slow clocks, boring atmospheres,
MEDIA THE AUDIENCE WATCHES- Horror/ Thriller films, "The Boy", "Annabelle", "Mama", "The Orphan", "The Conjuring", "Paranormal Activity" or ghost documentaries on TV
MEDIA THE AUDIENCE READS- Horror Books http://booklistonline.com/ProductInfo.aspx?pid=7530019&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 or news articles based on ghost/ spirit encounters.
MEDIA THE AUDIENCE LISTENS TO- Chart music?, nothing in particular.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION- Not specified
LOCATION ON GEO-DEMOGRAPHICS- South England, London- to attract the viewers of people working within the media.
SOCIO-ECONOMIC- I wouldn't aim this at people within Class A, as I don't think that they will find a horror interesting, their lives are very structured and horrors can be disturbing and take people out of their comfort zone. I cant imagine someone of a very high class getting pleasure out of scaring themselves. I would aim my product at those in Class B and lower.

I had a look on YouGov Lite to find out a bit about the type of people who watch horror films, that interested me.

  1. Annabelle received average male viewers aged 40-54. Supporting right wing politics. C2DE Social grade, enjoys board games.
  2. The Conjuring also received male viewers aged 40-54. Supporting right wing politics. ABC1 social grade and enjoys trivia pursuit.
  3. Orphan attracted women aged 40-54 with the social grade of ABC1. They support left wing politics. Their professions are law and they enjoy playing scrabble.
